* What is Jupiter Project |
|---|
Let's observe Jupiter and its satellites with your friends in all over the world!! Jupiter Project is a global challenge, in which members collaborate to observe Jupiter and the movements of its satellites for a long time period continuously. For example, Io, the most inner Galilean satellites, makes a round of Jupiter in about 42 hours. We cannot observe continuously for such a long period from a single location. But if we relay the night times of each locations of all over the world, we may have collective pictures which show Io making a round of Jupiter. Isn't it a very exciting challenge? Of course, you may find different interests other than above, Indeed, to form global collaboration by comunicating among international members itself is also exciting. Why don't you enjoy this project together? (regarding past projects, please see here.)
|
* When? |
Pre-trial (for practice): 20th April -- 3rd May, 2006
|
* Where? |
Any place is OK.
|
* What should I do? |
Attach a camera to your telescope, and take photos of Jupiter and its Galilean satellites. Take sequential photos for each 30 minutes or an hour. Digital-cameras are enough if the relative positions of the objects can be found. Once you got some photos, please upload those to the project WEB and share them with other participants.
|
* Then, what can I do? |
By combining with photos of other members, you may find satellites moving around Jupiter You can make a composite photograph or make a GIF animation. You can also do more scientific activities, such as determining the mass of Jupiter etc...
